About SRE
Equipping Children with Life Skills
The Buddhist Council SRE curriculum aims to help children lead happy and healthy lives. It is centred on the development of values and life skills based on the teachings of the Buddha. It is designed to build confidence in understanding oneself and Buddhist teachings through age appropriate lessons from Kindergarten to Year 10.
Buddhist practices and values can improve the lives of all people young and old. Buddhism equips children with skills to navigate difficulties in their lives and teaches them how to cultivate positive feelings.

Committed and Skilled Buddhist Teachers
Teachers are volunteers from the Buddhist community, and are trained and authorised annually by the Buddhist Council of NSW. They are deeply committed to teaching SRE in a skillful way.
We provide initial and ongoing training to teachers in lesson planning and classroom management. Teachers must have a verified Working With Children Check, complete Child Protection Awareness Training and abide by the Buddhist Council’s code of conduct.
Learning to Live Happily
Lessons are age appropriate and based on an authorised curriculum.
Children will learn how to:
- Meditate
- Cultivate joyful feelings
- Take care of difficult emotions
- Be kind and caring towards themselves and others
- Have fun!
