Barom Kagyu Sydney will conduct the Prayers and Butter Lamp Offering, in memory of Choekhor Duchen, the anniversary upon which Shakyamuni Buddha First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma.
The turning of the Wheel of Dharma represents the spiritual progression generated by the Buddha’s teachings. The First Turning corresponds to the Buddha’s first sermon after his enlightenment at the Deer Park in Sarnath, in which he spoke about the Four Noble Truths – Truth of Suffering, Truth of Causality of Suffering, Truth of Cessation of Suffering and Truth about the Path leading to cessation of suffering. These teachings are the principle source of the Hinayana, or Lesser Vehicle, of Buddhism.
According to the Tibetan calendar, Barom Kagyu Sydney will organise a celebration of this significant event in Lord Shakyamuni Buddha’s life on Friday, 24 July 2020.
