In the West, it is common to hear the advice to ‘be the knowing’. The unspoken assumption can be that the ‘knowing’ is the same as Nibbāna.

Did the Buddha really teach this? If not, where does it come from?

To explore this question, we will travel back to ancient India. There, we will examine the dawning of Advaita Vedanta and the fall of Buddhism in the land of its birth.
