Event Details

Rigpa Australia is proud to announce that it is launching a special series of online Loving Kindness practices leading up to the referendum on 14 October on the Recognition of First Nations people in the Australian Constitution, the Voice to Parliament.

Each practice session will consist of a reading of the Uluru Statement from the Heart followed by a Loving Kindness practice for healing, compassion and wisdom in our communities as we move towards the referendum. This will be a quiet, safe space to contemplate our personal response and aspirations for ourselves and our communities.

A contemplation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart provides an opportunity to lean into the aspirations behind this Statement, while the Loving Kindness practice provides an opportunity to strengthen our compassion for self and others in our community.

Please note this practice will be not provide opportunity for discussion about the Statement nor either side of the referendum debate.

These 45-minute-long sessions will be held on Saturdays at 10am and Wednesdays at 5.30pm starting 9 September.

Our first session will be part of the multifaith period of Prayer, Reflection and Meditation offered by faith groups across Australia for unity, hope and respect. In particular, the Buddhist contribution to this is to hold a 56 hour meditation, representing 56 years since the last Aboriginal referendum.

The sessions will be held at:
10.00am– 10.45am on these Saturdays: September 9, 16, 23, 30, October 7 and 14.
5.30pm – 6.15pm on these Wednesdays: September 13, 20, 27, October 4 and 11.
