Event Details
Join Rainbodhi to let the government know that Australians, including Buddhists, oppose the Religious Freedom Bill that will allow discrimination against women, LGBTQIA+ folk and other minorities. Stand up to injustice and march with us at the No Right to Discriminate protest in Sydney on Saturday 8th February.
Meet at the Yininmadyemi Sculpture (the big bullets in Hyde Park South, near Elizabeth St) at 12:45pm and we will head to the protest together.
If passed, this legislation would
– give religious organisations the licence to discriminate using “statement of belief” exemptions
– allow health providers to cut off access to treatments, especially those required by LGBTQIA+ people and women
– give religious hospitals and charities new rights to discriminate in employment and service provision
“We are genuinely concerned about our community’s well-being and loss of legal protections… We definitely don’t want to see any discrimination against LGBTIQ human rights in the name of religion. Spirituality is an intrinsic part of being human. It should be a source of connection and wisdom in our lives, rather than division and despair.” (Bhante Akaliko, Rainbodhi)
BRING: Protest placards, signs, rainbow flags, banners
