BENEFITS OF A BUDDHIST OUTLOOK
Buddhism emphasises the importance of helping others or at the very least avoiding harm. In order to be able to do this, the core message is to take up the responsibility of freeing one’s own mind from its confusion and afflictive emotions through the cultivation of Wisdom and Compassion. Whether one’s output is benevolent or harmful, both equally have their origin within the mind. This is why in Buddhism it is understood that mind is the root of all & it is the mind that must be addressed first and foremost before any meaningful change can take place within the situations of our lives. The benefits of living with such an outlook are numerous but put simply, His Holiness the Dalai Lama says “Genuine Happiness comes from focusing on the happiness of others.”
$20/$15 Concession – All proceeds will go to Swanhaven Retreat House

THE FOUR IMMEASURABLE THOUGHTS & BODHICITTA

It is characterised by a longing to become free of all afflictive emotions and confusion, to achieve a state of complete enlightenment for the sake of all beings. This topic is incredibly vast yet at the same time surprisingly simple and approachable, essentially it will put you in touch with the basic goodness of your humanity and the humanity of others. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about this very important topic which is the very heart and soul of Mahayana Buddhism.

FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS & EIGHTFOLD PATH
During the first sermon after his enlightenment, the Buddha presented what is known as the Four Noble Truths to a gathering of 5 disciples. The truth of Suffering, The truth of its Cause, The truth of Cessation and The Truth of the Path. These four succinct statements encapsulate the entire goal, practice and philosophy of Buddhism and served as a framework for all the preceding teachings that the Buddha gave in while alive on the earth. This is an essential teaching for all who want to deepen their knowledge of Buddhism and for all who wish to uncover and recover from suffering and its causes!
