With Patrick Kearney

February 5 – 19, 2021

This online retreat will be conducted through Zoom. The daily schedule will include: an early morning posture and flexibility workshop to help develop mindfulness immersed in body (kayagata sati); a practice workshop which will progressively introduce different aspects of mindfulness meditation (satipatthana); group sittings; individual interviews; and an evening dharma talk. Each day will begin at 7:00 a.m. for the posture and flexibility session and end at 8:30 p.m. after the evening dharma talk.
Our online retreat will be held in the midst of our daily duties and distractions that a residential retreat avoids. This is a disadvantage, as we cannot escape our everyday entanglements; it is also an advantage, as we have an opportunity to practice in the midst of our ordinary lives. We will live our mindfulness practice rather than occasionally visit it when we take time off to be “spiritual.”

Teacher

Patrick Kearney
Patrick Kearney is an independent dharma teacher in the lineage of Mahāsī Sayādaw of Burma, his principal teachers being Paṇḍitarama Sayādaw and John Hale. He has also trained in the Diamond Sangha lineage of Zen Buddhism. His original teacher was Robert Aitken Roshi, and he is now studying with Paul Maloney Roshi. Patrick has a particular interest in the Buddha’s teachings before Theravāda or Mahāyāna were thought of. He studies Pāli and seeks to bring his understanding of the early texts to the practice of dharma in the contemporary world. For further details see his website.
