We are always being moved by something – desire, fear, care, habit, intention. In Buddhism, the question is not whether we desire, but rather, how do we work with desire, not against it, to find greater freedom and to access a type of alignment with who we already are?
This two-part series invites a close, experiential inquiry into the difference between wholesome and unwholesome desire in Buddhism.
Rather than offering a fixed position, we will explore how these forces show up in the body, in thought, and in action, and moment by moment in our lives. We will explore the theme of trust and intuition and explore how to recognise the difference between wisdom and reactivity.
This is a practice of learning to read and open to our own experience: to sense when we are moving in alignment with conditions, and when we are subtly pushing against them. In doing so, we open the possibility of a life guided less by compulsion, and more by clarity and care. Channeled skillfully, desire can represent a portal to spiritual fire that moves through us and enlivens our practice and our lives.
