Maitreya Project Buddha Relics Exhibition
Dates & Times: Friday 9 March, Opening Ceremony, 5.00pm-7.00pm
Saturday-Sunday 10-11 March, 10.00am-5.00pm
Venue: Vajrayana Institute, 9 Victoria Square Ashfield NSW
A collection of sacred relics of the Buddha and other Buddhist masters from the Maitreya Project Heart Shrine will be touring Australia and will be exhibited in Sydney at Vajrayana Institute, Ashfield. Some of these relics were donated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Burmese Meiktila Relic Museum, Tibetan and Chinese monasteries and Korean and Thai temples.
This is a rare opportunity to view these relics, many of which were found among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters. They resemble pearl-like crystals. Buddhists believe relics embody a master's spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom which are deliberately produced by the master at his death to give inspirations to his disciples.
To find out more about these relics, visit this dedicated webpage describing the contents of the collection.
For those who want a more personal experience during the exhibition, the relics of the Buddha will be gently placed on the head of a visitor in an individual blessing. Visitors often report experiences of inspiration in the presence of the relics.
The Maitreya Project intends to bring as much benefit as possible - spiritually, in education and healthcare, and economically, through the direct and indirect creation of employment opportunities in northern India. It includes building a magnificent 500ft / 152m bronze statue of Maitreya Buddha in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, India. This collection of relics will be housed in a special shrine at the heart of this statue.
