Awakening the Mind & Heart: Mindfulness Practices

Event Date and Time: 14 - 15 July 2012, 10am – 4pm each day

Heather Marriott is an experienced psychotherapist, supervisor and educator and works in private practice in Clifton Hill, Victoria. She has been a practicing psychologist for twenty years working at some of the largest counseling and psychotherapy agencies in Melbourne. Heather has been a Buddhist practitioner under the guidance of the Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche for fifteen years.

Heather will introduce specific Buddhist and Western approaches and techniques for cultivating personal change and compassion through Mindfulness. Western psychotherapy offers various and diverse theories that can help us to understand the human condition and the reasons we think, feel and act the way that we do. Recently there has been a trend for integrating Buddhist practices of mindfulness and loving-kindness into psychotherapy. Both traditions have something to offer the individual and in this course we will look at how we can draw from both traditions in a holistic approach to self-transformation and our relationships with others. The weekend will include meditation practices, reflections and discussion.
